What to expect during therapy

Starting therapy can be a bit scary or confusing but it is worth it, and so are you. Below are some things to expect during the first few interactions with your therapist.

Starting Therapy

After submitting an inquiry, I will reach out to you to schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation or start the new client process. A consultation allows you to share a summary of what you would like to address in therapy and ask any questions you might have. If we decide to work together, we can start the on boarding process. I will gather your information including demographics and insurance (if applicable) and send you electronic forms to complete through Simple Practice (electronic medical record system). All forms and a method of payment must be completed and on file prior to your initial appointment.

Insurance/Payment

Revive Counseling, LLC is in-network (INN) with Aetna, Medicare, UnitedHealth Care (UHC and UMR) and BCBS/Anthem (contract still pending). However, there any many different plans with these names. I encourage all clients to verify with their plan that I am in-network. I do not file out-of-network (OON) claims, but can provide you with a super bill to submit to your insurance for out of network coverage. Self pay options are also available. There is a 24 hour cancellation/no show policy. Cancellation fees will be discussed in your initial paperwork.

Initial Session for Individual Clients and Families

During your initial session, we will go over your intake paperwork and your background. This is an opportunity to build rapport and establish goals for therapy. How often we meet is based on needs and availability. Sessions are 50 minutes. â€‹

Initial Sessions for Couples

When working with couples, please plan for 4 beginning assessment and treatment planning sessions. The first session, I will meet you with you and your partner together to discuss your relationship history and presenting concerns. The 2nd and 3rd sessions are individual sessions to discuss personal history and knowledge of your experience in the relationship. At our 4th session, we will come back together to discuss a treatment plan. Sessions are 50 minutes. â€‹

Embrace Your Journey

I believe that therapy is a part of wellness. Everyone can benefit from therapy. It is your journey and I am happy to support your goals. I often give homework and/or things to work on in between sessions to make the most of your therapy journey. The length of treatment depends on many factors. Ideally, once you have met your goals, the frequency of sessions will decrease or stop and we can discuss completing treatment or staring maintenance sessions once a month.
